End of the Line

This compilation of my ancestry was started shortly after Marston and I began dating in 1993. To be honest, before then there were no thoughts about researching and genealogy was just a word in the dictionary. However, Marston trained me well.

He delved into the project with zeal and we spent more than several dates at genealogical libraries in the area. Being an Information Technology professional, I chose software for us to use to document all the data that we found. That first selection was Roots which evolved into The Master Genealogist still in use today.

Our honeymoon in 1995 was spent in New England between Connecticut and Massachusetts libraries, cemeteries, courthouses and any other place the search took us. This research in New England was mainly to ferret out my father's Todd/Adams ancestors.

A later trip took us to western Massachusetts (Charlemont) where the Todd's settled before leaving for Minnesota. The practice of the first-born son inheriting all the property is what drove Lorenzo and his brother Dexter to seek their own property and new life in Minnesota. To this day, the farm that they purchased is still owned by one of dad's cousins!

I also remember a historic trip to Wisconsin to visit family and learn more about my German ancestry. One day we started in Sheboygan Falls, locating a folder at a local library which revealed where more information about Minnie Clark might be found. We ended that day at the home of Frank Clark in Door County. He had published a booklet about the Clark's that contained much information for me on the Feld line. There were stops in Greenbay, Sturgeon Bay and finally Fish Creek.

Let me finish with a quote from Deboarah Smith "Family is everything. It defines you--the heart of your spirit, the heritage of your smile, not only the color of your eyes but how they see the world. You are bound by kinship. You add your own link to the chain, and that is where you strengthen or weaken what you have been blessed--or burdened--with. That is where you use the indefinable quality that belongs to only you, the bit of uniqueness you pass on to your children for good or bad, the part of you that will always be separate from those who share your name, your blood, and your past."
